How to Choose the Best Eyeglass Frames for Your Face

Eyeglasses can be a great fashion accessory and add a bit of panache to your look. You can keep a wardrobe of several pairs of glasses to match with various outfits, or stick with one pair you LOVE for everyday.

When choosing the correct frames for your prescription glasses the two main things to keep in mind are your face shape and your coloring. When considering coloring, you can choose a frame color that accents your favorite feature (i.e. a green tint to match green eyes.) Matching the color tone of your glasses to your personal coloring is also a must.

Knowing whether your coloring is warm or cool can help you find the glasses frame colors that will suit you the best.  If you are warm, some good color choices are gold, copper, camel, khaki, off-thiw, bright red, warm blue, blonde tortoise. If you fall into the cool category, try black, blue-gray, pink, blue, dark tortoise, or blue-gray.

For face shape, you should both keep the frame size in scale with your face size and also choose the best shape to compliment your face. Most faces fall into one of seven basic face shapes: round, oval, oblong, base-down triangle, base-up triangle, diamond and square.  Some general tips by face ship are as follows:

Square  - Try oval and round frames and avoid geometric and square shaped frames.

Oval - You're lucky! Most frame shapes work with oval faces.

Oblong - Try tall frames or broad glasses with an accented top rim or temple to add width

Round - Angular and geometric frames help sharpen facial feature. Avoid round or oval frames.

Diamond - Catseye, oval and rimless styles all work well.  Avoid narrow frames.

Heart - Bottom-heavy frames to balance out your forehead or narrow round frames work well.

Triangle - Semi-rimless frames and top-heavy styles to balance out your jaw are best.


So, just consider your face size, shape and color tone and you will be well on your way to fantastic looking glasses that are perfect for you!
